Review by hotel critic
As a history professor with a penchant for culinary adventures, my recent stay at Es Portal certainly piqued my interest, especially with its beautiful surroundings near the medieval town of Pals. The hotel's restaurant promised a unique dining experience, and it did not disappoint. During my visit, I had the opportunity to indulge in a tasting menu that showcased the area's artisan products. I savored dishes featuring the renowned rice grown in Pals, paired harmoniously with wines from local wineries, all under the careful guidance of the knowledgeable sommelier. This experience fueled my curiosity for regional history, as I connected the flavors to local traditions and culinary practices. The ambiance of the restaurant, set in a XVIth-century farmhouse, added to the experience. Surrounded by the lush garden, I found myself reflecting on the historical context of the area while enjoying a refreshing local gin and tonic. Breakfast was equally noteworthy, featuring fresh produce from local farms-an ideal way to start the day. While the hotel is adjacent to a busy road, my room was quiet, offering an unexpected level of comfort. For those interested in immersing themselves in local culture through food, Es Portal is certainly worth considering as part of your travels.
